Events Centre

Located on the Wild Atlantic Way in Tralee, County Kerry, Siamsa Tíre, as Ireland’s first Green certified theatre, offers a unique iconic venue and provides a guaranteed Irish cultural highlight with exciting cultural performances and engaging workshops!

Housed in an iconic round fort theatre and arts centre, it is ideal for incentive activity programmes or as a conference venue.

One of Ireland’s busiest theatres and arts centres, it is the home of Ireland’s only theatre company dedicated to the preservation and development of Irish traditional arts – the National Folk Theatre of Ireland. Celebrating 50 years, it presents a professional cast of performers all trained in the Siamsa Tíre style. From May to September these champion dancers, musicians and singers perform unique productions that bring Irish traditions, culture, folklore and heritage of old to life, showcasing and celebrating the best of Irish music, song, dance and dramatic storytelling.

The plush purpose built 350 seat theatre and arts centre is a landmark in Tralee, easily recognised by its round tower and stone walls, designed to replicate the ancient ring forts of Kerry. It was a bespoke development to house the National Folk Theatre of Ireland and has one of the best stages and technical specifications in Ireland, multiple dressing rooms, a green room, a large rehearsal space and small boardroom/meeting room as well as gallery spaces.

From October to April, Siamsa Tíre hosts a wide range of theatre events, and its gallery spaces display the work of artists from Ireland and abroad throughout the year. Siamsa Tíre also offers a full bar and can cater for receptions.

The National Folk Theatre Training Academy starts training performers in the unique Siamsa Tíre style from the ages of six years plus. They learn the longstanding arts traditions of Irish music, song and dance over six years to become part of the performing cast, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the National Folk Theatre across the generations. This Academy also offers Workshops allowing MICE groups to take part in these living Irish traditions and learn Irish songs or dances from the stage repertoire and get a glimpse backstage! It is also a CSR option for MICE events.

Siamsa Tíre is the first theatre in Ireland to achieve Creative Green Certification under a scheme run by London based charity, Julie’s Bicycle. Creative Green is the only international environmental certification scheme designed specifically for the creative and cultural industries. Creative Green is an international community of pioneering cultural organisations that recognise and celebrate environmental best practice of events, venues, museums, galleries, festivals and offices/studios using the transparent and methodical Creative Green Framework. Siamsa Tíre was awarded three out of five stars based on points awarded for Commitment, Understanding and Improvement. In 2017, Siamsa Tíre formalised and implemented comprehensive Greening Policies. These included increasing energy efficiency and reducing dependency on fossil fuels – this was achieved by insulating the building, converting from an oil fired heating system to an Air to Water Heat Pump system and installing 40 photo-voltaic panels on the roof of the building. It also replaced all of the building lighting and as much of the stage lighting as possible with LED lights. Staff working groups continue to develop and implement green policies across waste and water management, biodiversity, transport and travel as well as procurement.

This year Siamsa Tíre celebrated 50 years since its first performance. This featured a summer season of five shows reflecting the breadth and diversity of productions over the 50 years, including the development of a brand new production called An Ghaoth Aniar. It also included a royal visit by HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in June 2018.
